Matthew Mason - Worshipful Master
September is here! It is time for some great fall weather and some great fall fellowship.
We had a most excellent Table Lodge that Joe Wallach, Joseph Dongo, Smokey Stover, and Francisco Marques put on for us. We had 25 people present, and everyone had a great time. I can’t wait for next year.
This month’s Stated Meeting is being catered by……Brother Smokey!!!!! He is cooking spaghetti for us all, and I’ll be bringing the wine to go with it. Thank you so much, Brother. Also, we are going to have a Hawaiian-themed dress night (optional for you) to celebrate the Master’s Ball later this month, which is luau-themed.
Speaking of the Master's Ball, Brother Bill Workman has some good entertainment lined up, as well as some really good food. It is $40 for the man and complimentary for his guest. It is free for our dearest ladies who have lost their husbands, so make sure to reach out to them. It is open to Masons, prospects, and friends of Masons. Please RSVP for this event.
Finally, Brother Wally Clark will organize a Chili Cook-Off for our October Stated Meeting. Get your recipe out of your vault and bring some to share with the Lodge. You can also bring some cornbread as a side/entry instead or even as an addition. It’s what is for dinner before the meeting.
A bottle of wine is the prize for the best chili (and one for the best cornbread). You do NOT have to have an entry to join us for dinner. We want you to come test the chili and choose the best to your liking. This is just a time for us to relax, break bread, and enjoy each other's company.
Some exciting things are happening in our Lodge, and I think you’ll find the time well spent.
See you on Jay Street!

September is here, and with it, change.
We’ve already received our first rain storms, rinsing the layer of dust that encapsulates all that is exposed to the heat of summer and leaving a clean, exposed surface for what is to come next.
This is a fresh look at a familiar phase of our Masonic year.
The last preparations for what must be done as we move towards our new positions and duties after having shed the outer shell of our former selves. As we grow into what lies ahead for each of us, know that it is important to look back and see how you have grown and become better than the person you once were, having shed that outer layer that no longer suits you so as to free yourself to grow into a better person, man, Mason.
I look forward to seeing everyone at our September Stated Meeting.
Until then.

Brethren, it has finally cooled off a little here in the Sacramento region, but the Summer is still in all its glory.
I hope you are all planning to attend this year's Ladies Night, now referred to as the Master's Ball.
We get one last shot at Summer with a Hawaiian-themed Luau that will make you feel as if you are on the islands. It will be a good excuse to wear your favorite Aloha shirt and enjoy a tropical beverage.
A local hula group will perform, as well as some other local island entertainment.
Please RSVP so that we can plan ahead.
It's $40 for you and your date!
A lot of work has been going on behind the scenes at the Masonic Temple to ensure this event can take place.
Washington 20’s very own Worshipful Francisco Marques, PM, has been diligently working to ensure the ballroom and facilities are available and ready to host such an event. This is no small task, and I believe he deserves gratitude for his tireless efforts.
As always, I will quote a patriotic Founding Father or two on the Trestle Board as inspiration.
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more,
and become more; you are a leader.”
John Quincy Adams:
"I early found that when I worked for myself alone, myself alone worked for me;
but when I worked for others also, others worked also for me."
Benjamin Franklin
To those who inspire and work tirelessly for the benefit of others, I humbly salute you!
You are the backbone of society and a true honor to the Craft.

Founding Fathers
The Fight for Freedom and the Birth of American Liberty
by K.M. Kostyal and Jack N. Rakove
Kostyal tells the story of the great American heroes who created the Declaration of Independence, fought the American Revolution, shaped the US Constitution--and changed the world.
The era's dramatic events, from the riotous streets in Boston to the unlikely victory at Saratoga, are punctuated with lavishly illustrated biographies of the key founders--Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, Ben Franklin, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and James Madison--who shaped the very idea of America.
An introduction and ten expertly-rendered National Geographic maps round out this ideal gift for the history buff and students alike.
Filled with beautiful illustrations, maps, and inspired accounts from the men and women who made America, Founding Fathers brings the birth of the new nation to light.
